At the beginning of 2016, I sat down and wrote out 4 things I wanted to accomplish that year. Read a book per month, stay on a budget, start our adoption, and give more than 2015. Seeing that it’s April 4th, I’m a little behind on looking at 2017 and what I want to see at the end of the year, but I’m going to take a shot.
As far as 2016 was concerned, I did manage to read a few books. Not 1 per month, but I accelerated at the end of the year and probably ended up around 6 or 7. These are both books to learn as well as to entertain. We also gave more than the year before. I was glad to see that. As far as starting our adoption, technically we did begin, but as I’ve desrcribed before, we put a hold on the process due to other life events. The one I missed the biggest was staying on a budget. This was not a successful endeavor and it’s being migrated into this year.
Looking ahead into the remainder of 2017, here are the three things I want to see when I get to December 31st.
Stay On Budget
This is a necessity that I’m rolling over into this year. Mrs. King and I have set a budget and our goal is to stay on it 9/12 months in 2017. I know this is possible, but sacrifices will have to be made. There are some financial goals we are trying to achieve and this budget is necessary for us to get there.
Read 1 Book/Month For Pleasure
I’m rolling this one over too. Last year, this forced me to read more and this year I’ve already read two books for pleasure and I’m working on my third. I’ve also started a Father/Son book club with my oldest and several of his friend and their dads. This will add some accountability to this achievement. This combined with other books I’m reading for professional development, I’m sure I’ll read more than 12 this year. I’m no Jon Acuff, but it will be HUGE improvement over recent years’ activity. I should keep a list.
Camping, hiking, hunting, playing, you name it. In 2017 I want to continue to be outside more often. Last year I as in a tree stand several times and we camped once. I’m intend to camp at least twice this year with the family. We will also do more fishing and get our canoe out in the lake which is less than 10 miles from our house. C’mon!
Keeping it simple and focusing on execution. That’s the plan this year.
