Kids say…

December 26th, 2008 thefatrat No comments

My kids are so sweet, and they come up with some of the funniest, cutest things to say. A few days ago, we were eating dinner and Emmry reached her hand over to me ( I was sitting next to her ) and said something.

“What did you say Sweetie?”

“You my bes fwiend, Daddy.”

YES! That’s awesome! Then she leaned over and gave me a one arm hug. Heart melter. I love it. She has told me that a couple more times since then, usually at dinner. Too sweet.

That ranks right up there with Caleb telling us and anyone who asks him what he wants to be when he grows up, “I want to be a Daddy.” Except for that one time when he said baseball player. Granted we were at a baseball game at the time.
When I ask him what kind of Daddy, “A big Daddy just like you.”
When I asked him why the other day, “So I can help people.” What people, “Kids.”
He also wants to hang around the house. I guess I’m hanging around a lot.

Also ranking high is “Daddy” being the first word 2 out of 3 kids have said. Ansley says it all the time now though.

I love being a Daddy!

so much to do… so little time…

August 25th, 2008 thefatrat No comments

We’ve been running in a bunch of directions lately.  From fishing, to weddings, to work, to kids there has been a ton going on with us in the last month or so.  We really do need to do a better job of keep everyone updated.  I will start here by listing a couple things and then do a few more over  the next few days.

A few weeks ago I went fishing with Grant and a Chris.  We headed to the Meremac River by Cuba, MO.  Grant and Chris were fly fishing but I don’t have any fly gear, so I was using my reel.  We walked in the river and caught a several fish a piece, nothing to take home, but we were getting hits.  On the way back up the river I finally snagged a worthy catch.on ice This was very tasty after I grilled him up with some butter, lemon and Cajun seasoning.  This was also the first time I have ever cleaned a fish.  It went pretty well thanks to Kristie’s dad Phil.Mmmm.... The end result was well worth the effort and I’m still ahead on my goal of fishing more than I golf this year.

Also, while on this trip, Caleb called me to tell me some knock-knock jokes.  He has a whole routine and he is very funny.  My favorite is the Owl joke.  It goes like this:

Knock, Knock

Who’s there?

Who

Who, who?

Is there an owl in here?

This joke, told by a 3.5 year old is very funny, especially over the phone.

Caleb’s little (not so much) friend…

June 16th, 2008 thefatrat No comments

Kristie´s dad, Phil, and I took Caleb fishing today at Castlewood State Park.  We found a little spot with some deep water and tossed in our lures.  A little hot dog on the hook and we had plenty of bites, trouble was the size of the fish.  The water was shallow and clear enough that we could see all dozen or so fish nibbling all our bait.

Caleb and I had our crocs on so we headed up stream through the creek and found another spot with some good potential.  Caleb got soaking wet playing in the creek and I got a little wet going after my snagged lure.  We didn´t catch anything, but we had a blast.

Phil took pictures between casts and we came away with a few good ones.  We also came away with something else.  I noticed what looked like a little dirt under Caleb´s left eye.  I mean right under his bottom eye lash.  I tried to get it off a couple times, but it was stuck and Caleb didn´t want me messing with it.  I left it alone until bedtime, when I had to take a really close look.  Upon further inspection (thanks to the help of Caleb´s creature magnifying glass), sure enough if Caleb didn´t have a TICK stuck on him!  On his bottom eyelid!

He was a brave little boy for sure.  I had to talk him through it, but I am so proud of the way he handled me taking that tick out.  Imagine being 3 years old and having to hold perfectly still while your Dad takes a tick off your bottom eyelid right under your eyelash, WITH A PAIR OF TWEEZERS!  He was AWESOME!  Two tugs and out it came.  We checked it out under his magnifying glass before I flushed him down the toilet.  Afterward, I gave him a piece of Hershey´s and told him how proud I was that he was so brave.

Happy Father´s Day!
